Christy Newman

She began powerlifting in 1993 at Tioga High School in Louisiana.  She went on to compete for the Louisiana Tech Iron Dogs and won 2 Colligate National Championships, as well as being apart of the ’98,’99,and ’00 Jr. World Teams.  After graduating she went on to compete in the Bench Press Nationals and won several Nationals Titles as well as being apart of several Bench Press World Teams.  In 2004 and 2007 Christy won the IPF Bench Press Worlds as well as broke the World Record in the 75kilo weight class.  Christy currently works in the Human Resources Department for Ryan Energy, she enjoys photography and has her own website christynewman.smugmug.com.

Johnny Graham

Johnny was inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame in 2007.  Originally from Daytona Beach, FL. he currently lives in Killeen, TX.  He started his long 20+ years in the US Army now a retired Army Master Sergeant with 2 Bronze Stars, Purple Hearts, 3 Meritorious Service Medals, Joint Service Commendation, 7 Army Commendations, Jump Master Ranger, Special Forces Qualified, as well as being an Expert Marksman/Sniper.  In other words do not make Johnny Graham mad.  Johnny is also a family man married to Elke for more than 25 years and 3 beautiful daughters – Trakina, Jennifer, Monique.  Johnny’s intrest in althletics began with weightlifting in high school doing the bench-press and clean & jerk, going on to play football for the U. of Florida for 4 years, and being drafted by the Miami Dolphins. Later he would coach HS football for the Department of Defense Dependant Schools Europe (1980-1982).  Johnny has always loved lifting weights and started powerlifting in the mid 70′s, got away from it, and started back into powerlifting in 1983 while stationed in Fort Knox, KY, he has been involved in the sport since then.  Johnny’s lifting accomplishments are to numerous to put in one short bio.  Not only is he a Multi-National Champion, he is a Multi-World Champion, Multi-World Record holder, and has coached several World teams to victory.  His favorite victory though is winning the 2006 Masters World Championships. “This meet was in my home town and the first time my family has seen me lift at a World Championships.”

Tony Cardella

Since his time at Texas A&M in the latter half of the 90’s, winning 3 collegiate National Titles,Tony Cardella has become a household name in powerlifting. While at A&M, Tony not only lifted, but also led the organization as both President and Coach. He has multiple Collegiate and Junior National Championships, he was Open National Champion in 2001 and from 2003 to 2007, and he represented Team USA at IPF Worlds from 1998 to 2007. In 2007, he won the IPF World Championship, becoming the first American to win the 275-lb class since Kirk Karwoski in 1996.  He now trains in Conroe, TX, and keeps a close association with the A&M team.  He is the newest member of the USAPL executive committee and the webmaster for GOHEAVY.com the first powerlifting forum ever, as well as the USAPL and USAPL Texas websites.  Tony is a software developer for SAIC.
