Don't relax on your training over Christmas! A couple of good meets are just weeks away. The Phantom Corps is holding Women's Nationals this January and Southwest Texas is holding the SWT Invitational. Check out the Coming Events page and download the entry forms.

August 20, 2002

Malinda Baum will be representing the United States in the World Firefighters Games for 2002 being held from October 26 to November 2 in Christchurch, New Zealand. These games, sub-titled "The Memorial Games," are being dedicated to all fallen firefighters in the past two years, especially the fallen heros of 9/11. Good luck Malinda!

Art Menton, Donna Covington, (2001 Masters World Champion) Lisa Carroll, and Lanette Lopez were all selected for the 2002 Masters National Team. Lanette turned down the slot to help coach the team and train for the Longhorn Open. Congratulations to each lifter, we look forward to seeing Lanette lifitng at the Longhorn Open.

Johnny Graham's First Annual Summer Powerfest will be held on August 16-17. Click here for an entry form. We sincerely thank Johnny for holding this summer meet. It fills an unfortunate void in Texas local meet schedule. There's the Longhorn Open in November, the SWT Invitational in February, the State Meet in May, and now finally the Powerfest in August.

The State Meet is right around the corner! Get those entries in before the May 3rd deadline. Click here for an entry form and info sheet.

One big change: morning weigh-ins will be from 7-8am (instead of 8-9am) and lifting will start at 9am (instead of 10am). Please note these changes and don't miss that opening squat! Contact Tom North at 817-469-9375 for more information.

Congratulations to all those who lifted in the Collegiate Nationals this past weekend. Of special interest to us Texas powerlifters, natives Katie Ford and Isaac Chapa received long overdue recognition for their tireless efforts in promoting the USAPL and recruiting on the high school level. Powerlifting is big in Texas high schools, and these two collegiate lifters are intent on making it just as big on the college level.

This is long overdue, but GREAT JOB to all those ladies competing at Women's Nationals in Chicago on February 8-10. Results from the meet can be found here. Close to 20 state records were broken by the competitors from Texas. The updated records reflecting this meet can be found here (soon). Congrats to Katie Ford for her new Jr National and Collegiate American Records and to Donna Covington for qualifying for the Master National Team. A few of our junior women are fighting for spots on the Junior National team and await selection pending the results from HS and Collegiate Nationals.
